Organization Description:

Founded in 1981, The Energy Coalition (Coalition), a non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation, facilitates partnerships and develops and supports programs that empower utility end-users (municipal governments, businesses, students and residents) to practice smart energy management. One of the core Coalition programs, PEAK Student Energy Actions is a comprehensive educational program designed to empower and provide youth with the knowledge to manage energy use in their homes schools, and communities.

Position Description: (Full-Time Position)

The Coalition is seeking a full-time Senior Project Manager to oversee the successful implementation of the Southern California PEAK Student Energy Actions projects. Reporting to the Southern California Regional Director, the Senior Project Manager will be primarily responsible for recruiting schools, building effective and sustainable relationships between school districts and their serving utilities, and managing project staff. Project territories include: Brea, Irvine, Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica, Santa Clarita, Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Corona, and San Diego County.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong record of successful project management and experience in the field of education.

  • Oversee the Community Energy Partnership-PEAK and San Diego PEAK projects.
  • Provide guidance and direction to project management staff. Evaluate progress and develop strategies for the successful achievement of goals, positive community relationships, and energy savings objectives.
  • Update and enhance PEAK curriculum and other program materials in accordance with current California State Board of Education Content Standards and in coordination with Northern California PEAK staff.
  • Participate and serve as a management-level representative for the Coalition at PEAK program meetings, activities and community events.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, such as utility and school district representatives.
  • Recruit school districts and school participation within assigned territory.
  • Develop and support special projects and PEAK extension programs such as Summer PEAK Energy Adventure and International PEAK Week.
  • Co-facilitate outreach meetings and teacher training events.
  • Develop and maintain project planning and tracking documents.
  • Provide upper management with regular project status reports.
  • Provide comprehensive support to all Coalition activities as needed.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field with a minimum of 5 years of work experience.
  • Substantial work experience in the field of education.
  • Prior project development and management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, project planning, and management skills.
  • Must be available to work outside of regular business hours, when needed.
  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and vehicle for travel throughout Southern California to attend meetings and community events.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a Team environment.

Preferred

  • Experience as an elementary school teacher, particularly in science.
  • Interest in energy efficiency and environmental conservation.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
